Freelance Health and Safety Manager - £90m High-Rise Scheme (Manchester)

Location: Manchester - Rate: £460 - £485 per day

The Opportunity

A major main contractor is seeking an experienced Health andamp; Safety Manager to support delivery of a £90m development comprising two high-rise tower blocks.

This role requires a hands-on, technically strong HSE professional who can operate at both site and strategic level - driving standards, influencing teams, and ensuring robust compliance across a complex build.

Key Responsibilities

Act as the lead Health andamp; Safety advisor across the project
*

Provide expert guidance on UK legislation, ISO standards, and best practice
*

Support implementation and continuous improvement of HSE management systems
*

Monitor site activities to ensure full compliance from workforce and subcontractors
*

Lead incident reporting, investigation, and close-out, ensuring lessons learned are embedded
*

Oversee risk management processes, including identification, mitigation, and monitoring
*

Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and performance reviews, providing practical solutions
*

Support pre-start planning and high-risk work packages, ensuring safe systems of work
*

Build strong relationships with project teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to influence behaviours
*

Intervene where necessary to stop unsafe works and escalate appropriately
*

Support external audits and ensure timely close-out of non-conformances

About You

*

Strong background in construction HSE, ideally on high-rise or major projects
*

Demonstrable experience implementing and improving HSE systems and processes
*

Proven ability to lead incident investigations and manage risk
*

Confident influencing site teams and challenging behaviours where required
*

Strong communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels

Qualifications:

NEBOSH (or equivalent)
*

CSCS Card (Manager level)
