Senior Quantity Surveyor - High-Rise Project (Manchester)

Manchester - £75,000 - £90,000 + package

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take full commercial responsibility for a high-profile high-rise project in Manchester. You will work closely with the project and commercial teams to ensure successful delivery, manage risk, and maximise commercial returns.

This role is ideal for a commercially astute QS with main contractor or builder-focused experience, confident in managing large-scale construction projects and leading a small team of commercial staff.

Key Responsibilities

* Take ownership of the commercial management for assigned project(s) or elements
* Implement and integrate the project commercial strategy
* Act as the commercial representative to clients and supply chain, managing contractual issues
* Prepare tenders, evaluate and select supply chain partners, negotiate and finalise orders
* Prepare and agree client and supply chain valuations, certificates, and payments
* Manage change control, variations, and ensure robust records are maintained
* Update projected final accounts and prepare supply chain final accounts in a timely manner
* Participate in value engineering and design development discussions
* Maintain independent oversight of commercial reporting, cash flow, and risk/opportunity registers
* Lead and mentor junior commercial staff, ensuring high standards
* Support pre-construction and tender activities as required
* Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and commercial systems

Person Specification

* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Proven ability to manage large-scale or complex projects and multiple stakeholders
* Commercially aware, proactive, and confident in decision-making
* Experience mentoring and leading commercial teams
* Knowledge of construction technologies and their commercial implications
* Experience drafting contractual correspondence and managing disputes
* Skilled in procurement, negotiation, and letting complex subcontracts

Qualifications andamp; Experience:

* Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
* Minimum 10 years' experience in construction and commercial management
* Professional membership preferred (RICS / MCIOB)
