Design Manager

The Opportunity:

Our client, a leading civil engineering main contractor, is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of a growing portfolio of infrastructure projects across the North West.

This is a key role within the business, responsible for managing and coordinating the design process from tender through to construction, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, and buildable.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead and manage the design process across multiple civil engineering projects
* Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, including consultants and subcontractors
* Ensure design outputs meet programme, budget, and quality requirements
* Review and challenge design proposals to ensure buildability and value engineering opportunities
* Manage design risk and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations
* Oversee design assurance and approval processes
* Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and internal delivery teams
* Support bid and tender stages with technical input and design planning

What We're Looking For:

* Proven experience as a Design Manager within a civil engineering main contractor
* Strong background in infrastructure projects (e.g. highways, structures, drainage, utilities, or rail)
* Excellent understanding of design management processes and project delivery
* Ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Commercial awareness and ability to influence design decisions

Desirable:

* Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline
* Chartered or working towards chartership (ICE or similar) (desirable)
* Experience working under NEC contracts
* Background in delivering major infrastructure or complex projects
