Our client is a well-established and growing organisation operating within the water, utilities and civil engineering sectors, and they are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in their career and become an integral part of a successful project delivery team.

Experience within the water sector is preferred, particularly candidates who have worked on water infrastructure, clean water, wastewater, treatment works, pipelines, civils or associated utilities projects. However, our client will also consider Quantity Surveyors from strong civil engineering, infrastructure or utilities backgrounds who can demonstrate relevant commercial experience.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects from pre-construction and procurement through to project completion and final account.

Working closely with the Project Manager, Commercial Manager, site teams, clients, subcontractors and suppliers, you will ensure projects are delivered in a commercially controlled and profitable manner.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Managing the commercial and financial aspects of allocated projects from commencement through to completion.
* Preparing and maintaining accurate project budgets, forecasts and cost reports.
* Monitoring project expenditure and identifying areas of commercial risk.
* Managing valuations, applications for payment, variations and final accounts.
* Preparing and reviewing monthly commercial reports.
* Managing the commercial relationship with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
* Reviewing and negotiating subcontractor quotations and accounts.
* Preparing, issuing and managing subcontract packages.
* Assessing subcontractor applications, variations and payment notices.
* Identifying and managing variations, compensation events and changes to scope.
* Monitoring project progress against programme and budget.
* Maintaining accurate records of project costs, commitments and forecasts.
* Supporting the preparation of tenders, estimates and cost plans where required.
* Reviewing contract documentation and ensuring contractual obligations are understood and managed.
* Identifying commercial opportunities and mitigating potential risks.
* Supporting project teams with commercial and contractual advice.
* Preparing and agreeing final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
* Ensuring all commercial processes are carried out in accordance with company procedures and contractual requirements.
* Working collaboratively with operational teams to ensure commercial targets are achieved.

About You

The successful candidate will be an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong understanding of commercial management within construction, civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure.



You should be commercially aware, confident dealing with clients and supply chain partners, and comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment.

Key Skills and Experience

* Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure.
* Strong commercial and financial management skills.
* Experience managing project costs, valuations, variations and final accounts.
* Good understanding of construction contracts, ideally NEC.
* Experience working with subcontractors and suppliers.
* Strong understanding of cost control and forecasting.
* Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure.
* Ability to build effective relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
* Proactive approach to identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
* Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider project team.
* Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and relevant commercial/project management systems.
* Relevant Quantity Surveying qualification or equivalent commercial experience.

Qualifications

A degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or a related discipline would be advantageous.

Membership of RICS or working towards chartered status would also be beneficial, although candidates with strong relevant industry experience will be considered.
