Estimator - EHV Power and Civil Engineering

Location: Manchester
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Our client is a well-established civil engineering and construction business specialising in the EHV Power sector. Due to continued growth and an expanding workload, they are looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to join their team in Manchester.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimator with a background in civil engineering, utilities, EHV, substations or related infrastructure to take responsibility for managing tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission.

The Role

As an Estimator, you will be responsible for reviewing tender opportunities, developing accurate cost estimates and coordinating the full bid process.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Reviewing and assessing ITT and tender documentation
* Preparing detailed cost estimates for electricity substation civils works, including earthworks, groundworks, drainage, reinforced concrete foundations, roads, trough-laying, ducting and temporary works
* Preparing cost estimates for EHV cable installation works, including trenching, ducting, troughing, cable pulling and temporary works
* Producing estimates from first principles
* Obtaining and assessing quotations from specialist subcontractors and suppliers
* Preparing tender programmes, plans and supporting submission documentation
* Managing enquiries and ITTs from initial receipt through to submission
* Reviewing all tender information and identifying commercial and technical requirements
* Organising and attending site visits where required
* Coordinating tender programmes, drawings and supporting documentation
* Managing tender extensions where appropriate
* Engaging with specialist subcontractors, suppliers and internal departments
* Obtaining multiple quotations for materials, equipment and subcontract works
* Coordinating tender queries and clarifications
* Ensuring tenders are reviewed internally by the Contracts/Commercial teams prior to submission
* Completing detailed commercial reviews before final submission
* Compiling and professionally presenting all bid documentation
* Following up submitted tenders and obtaining client feedback
* Attending post-tender meetings where required
* Building and maintaining relationships with clients and identifying future opportunities

About You

To be successful in this position, you will ideally have a minimum of 5 years' estimating experience, preferably within civil engineering, utilities, EHV power, substations or a related infrastructure environment.

You will be:

* Highly literate and numerate
* Commercially aware with strong attention to detail
* Self-motivated, organised and enthusiastic
* Comfortable working to challenging deadlines
* Confident communicating with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams
* Able to work independently while also contributing effectively within a wider team
* Experienced in producing accurate estimates and tender submissions from first principles
