Quantity Surveyor

Our client is an established and growing Mandamp;E contractor delivering mechanical and electrical packages across a broad range of major construction projects throughout the North West and wider UK.

Following continued growth and the securing of a strong pipeline of new work, they are looking to strengthen their commercial team with the appointment of an experienced Quantity Surveyor.

This is a key commercial position where you will take responsibility for the financial and contractual management of mechanical and electrical packages, working closely with Project Managers, operational teams, subcontractors, clients and main contractors.

The role would suit someone who already understands the commercial demands of the Mandamp;E / Building Services sector and is confident managing projects from the early procurement stages through delivery, change management and ultimately final account.

The Projects

Our client has built a varied portfolio of work across both the public and private sectors, including:

* Major healthcare and hospital developments
* Large-scale residential and apartment schemes
* Schools, colleges and university projects
* Commercial offices and mixed-use developments
* Complex refurbishment and upgrade programmes
* Hotels, leisure and hospitality schemes
* Industrial and manufacturing facilities
* Technically challenging new-build developments

The projects vary considerably in size, complexity and programme, providing exposure to substantial mechanical and electrical packages across both new-build and refurbishment environments.

You will typically become involved from the pre-construction and procurement stages, helping establish the commercial position of a project before maintaining control of costs, variations, subcontractors and contractual matters throughout delivery.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will have responsibility for the day-to-day commercial management of your allocated projects and will work closely with both the commercial and operational teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Taking commercial ownership of mechanical and electrical projects and packages
* Managing project costs against agreed budgets and commercial targets
* Preparing and submitting interim valuations and applications for payment
* Identifying, pricing, submitting and negotiating variations
* Maintaining accurate change control throughout the project lifecycle
* Procuring subcontractors and specialist packages
* Reviewing subcontract quotations and assisting with commercial negotiations
* Managing subcontractor accounts, valuations and payments
* Producing regular cost reports, forecasts and CVRs
* Monitoring project cash flow and commercial performance
* Reviewing contracts and identifying potential commercial or contractual risk
* Working closely with Project Managers to ensure commercial and operational objectives remain aligned
* Attending project, commercial and client meetings where required
* Building effective working relationships with clients, main contractors, consultants and the wider supply chain
* Ensuring commercial records and project documentation are maintained accurately
* Supporting the resolution of contractual and commercial issues throughout delivery
* Managing projects through completion, including the negotiation and agreement of final accounts

About You



Ideally, you will have experience managing the commercial aspects of Mechanical and Electrical projects independently and be comfortable dealing directly with clients, main contractors, subcontractors and operational teams.

You should have a good understanding of valuations, variations, subcontract procurement, cost reporting and final accounts, together with the ability to identify commercial risk and protect the financial position of a project.

Formal Quantity Surveying qualifications would be advantageous, although relevant industry experience and a strong track record within Mandamp;E will be equally important.
