Senior Quantity Surveyor - Major Projects Consultancy

About the Company

Our client is an established consultancy providing specialist quantity surveying, commercial management and contractual advice across major infrastructure, engineering, utilities and energy projects.

Working closely with clients and project delivery teams, the business supports complex projects throughout the project lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on effective contract management, commercial performance and collaborative delivery.

Due to continued growth and increasing demand for its services, the business is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC4 knowledge to support its expanding project portfolio.\



The Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will provide commercial and contractual expertise across major projects, working closely with clients, project managers, engineers, contractors and subcontractors to support successful project delivery.

With NEC4 contract management at the heart of the role, you will advise on contractual matters, manage commercial processes and help project teams navigate changes, risks and financial challenges. Your responsibilities will span compensation events, payment assessments, programme impacts, early warnings and cost management.

This is a hands-on, client-facing position offering the opportunity to work closely with project delivery teams, contribute to commercial decision-making and develop practical solutions to complex contractual issues. Regular site visits will form part of the role, allowing you to build strong working relationships and support projects directly.

The opportunity would suit a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor who combines strong NEC4 knowledge with relevant project experience, clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to delivering results.



Key Responsibilities

* Providing commercial and contractual support across major infrastructure, energy and engineering projects
* Administering and managing NEC4 contracts in accordance with contractual requirements
* Advising clients and project teams on contractual obligations and commercial matters
* Managing and assessing compensation events and associated cost and programme implications
* Reviewing valuations, payment applications and contractual entitlements
* Managing early warnings, change control and commercial risk mitigation
* Monitoring project programmes and assessing the commercial implications of delays and changes
* Preparing cost reports, forecasts and commercial assessments
* Monitoring project costs and financial performance against agreed budgets
* Supporting procurement activities and the preparation of tender documentation
* Identifying commercial risks and opportunities and recommending appropriate actions
* Providing contractual guidance to clients, contractors and wider project teams
* Working collaboratively with project managers, engineers and other stakeholders
* Maintaining accurate commercial records and ensuring effective contractual administration
* Building positive working relationships across project teams
* Supporting colleagues and sharing commercial knowledge where appropriate



The Ideal Candidate

* Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor
* Strong practical experience of NEC4 contract administration and commercial management
* Relevant experience across infrastructure, engineering, utilities, energy or similarly complex project environments
* Good understanding of NEC4 contractual procedures, obligations and commercial mechanisms
* Experience managing compensation events, payment assessments and change control
* Understanding of programme management and contractual risk
* Experience preparing cost reports, forecasts and commercial assessments
* Commercially astute, with the ability to identify risks and develop effective solutions
* Confident providing contractual advice and communicating with clients and project teams
* Strong interpersonal, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills
* A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively on-site with project teams
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Engineering or a related discipline; HNC/HND qualifications will also be considered
* MRICS qualified or actively working towards RICS chartership through the APC
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits and business travel
