Location: Dunbar, Scotland
Working Arrangement: Full-time, site-based

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Health andamp; Safety Manager to oversee all health, safety and environmental (HSE) matters on a major roofing and cladding project in Dunbar, Scotland.

Our client is a specialist industrial and commercial roofing and cladding contractor, delivering a wide range of building envelope solutions across the UK. Their expertise covers industrial roofing, profiled metal cladding, composite panels, standing seam systems, single-ply membranes, rainscreen cladding and wider façade installations across new-build and refurbishment projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive Health andamp; Safety professional with a strong background in construction, ideally within roofing, cladding, façade or wider building envelope projects.

The successful candidate will be based full-time on site in Dunbar, taking responsibility for driving health and safety standards, ensuring legislative compliance and promoting a positive safety culture across the project workforce.

A NEBOSH qualification is essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities

*

Take overall responsibility for managing and monitoring health and safety across the project.
*

Develop, implement and maintain project-specific Health andamp; Safety Plans, policies and procedures.
*

Ensure compliance with all relevant UK health and safety legislation, regulations and industry best practices.
*

Carry out regular site inspections, audits and risk assessments, identifying potential hazards and implementing appropriate control measures.
*

Review, monitor and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for roofing, cladding and associated construction activities.
*

Ensure safe systems of work are implemented and followed by site teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
*

Monitor high-risk activities, particularly working at height, roof access, lifting operations, MEWPs, scaffolding and material handling.
*

Ensure appropriate fall protection, edge protection, access arrangements and collective safety measures are in place.
*

Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, producing reports and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
*

Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and workforce inductions, promoting awareness and accountability.
*

Monitor subcontractor health and safety performance, ensuring compliance with site requirements and company procedures.
*

Maintain accurate Handamp;S documentation, inspection records, audit reports and statutory compliance records.
*

Liaise with Project Managers, Site Managers, clients, principal contractors and external Handamp;S consultants.
*

Identify opportunities to improve site safety performance and proactively address unsafe practices.
*

Monitor environmental considerations, including waste management, pollution prevention and site housekeeping.
*

Support the project team in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the project lifecycle.

Candidate Requirements

*

NEBOSH qualification is essential - ideally NEBOSH National General Certificate or higher.
*

Proven experience working as a Health andamp; Safety Manager, HSE Manager, Handamp;S Advisor or similar within the construction industry.
*

Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction industry compliance requirements.
*

Experience undertaking site inspections, audits, risk assessments and accident investigations.
*

Strong understanding of RAMS, COSHH, method statements and safe systems of work.
*

Experience managing health and safety on live construction projects.
*

Excellent knowledge of working at height regulations and associated safety requirements.
*

Confident communicating health and safety requirements to site management, operatives and subcontractors.
*

Strong organisational, reporting and problem-solving skills.
*

A proactive, hands-on approach with the confidence to challenge unsafe working practices and enforce compliance.
*

Ability and willingness to work full-time on site in Dunbar, Scotland.

Desirable Experience

*

Previous experience within industrial roofing, cladding, façade or wider building envelope sectors.
*

Knowledge of roofing and cladding installation methods, including profiled metal sheeting, composite panels, standing seam and single-ply roofing systems.
*

Experience managing health and safety on projects involving extensive work at height, roof installations and external envelope works.
*

NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
*

Membership of IOSH or equivalent professional body.
*

Experience working within ISO 45001 health and safety management systems.
*

Relevant environmental management qualifications or experience.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a confident, knowledgeable and hands-on Health andamp; Safety professional who can take ownership of site safety and ensure the highest standards are maintained throughout the project.

Candidates must have a strong construction Handamp;S background and hold a NEBOSH qualification. Previous experience within roofing and cladding would be highly advantageous, although candidates from other relevant construction disciplines, particularly façade, external envelope and specialist subcontracting, will also be considered.

The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a fully site-based capacity, working closely with project management and site teams to promote a proactive safety culture, minimise risk and ensure the safe delivery of all works.
