Our Commitment to the Armed Forces

Building Careers, a construction and social housing recruitment agency known for its dedication to workforce development, has been championing veterans' transition into civilian jobs for nearly two decades.

On the eve of Armed Forces Day 2024, this commitment was highlighted once again this week when Jo Fisher, the Senior Business Manager and a leading recruiter in blue-collar trades, visited a site in Leeds to meet with the latest group of military veterans getting to grips with a new career in the construction industry.

Jo’s visit to Yorkshire is a part of Building Careers' ongoing initiative to support veterans. Speaking with a tier-one client's new batch of operatives, all from the armed forces, Jo spoke passionately about the vital skills and dedication that veterans bring to the construction job market.

"I was deeply impressed by the operatives' professionalism and readiness to tackle new challenges," said Jo. "Their military training provides a solid foundation for success in blue-collar trades. People coming out of the army into civilian life are ideal candidates to place in the industry as they have the core skills and that willingness to learn and do a good job.”

For nearly 20 years, Building Careers has focused on providing veterans with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed outside the military. This includes personalised career mentorship, targeted training programs, and strategic job placements.

Jo’s engagement with veterans is not just about finding jobs but ensuring they have long-term, fulfilling careers.

The visit allowed her to gather first hand insights into the veterans' experiences and aspirations, which will inform future support and training programs.

Building Careers has a history of successfully integrating veterans into the civilian workforce. This approach has resulted in numerous success stories, with veterans achieving significant career milestones and making meaningful contributions to their new employers.

Building Careers is not resting on its laurels. Our company plans to expand its training programs to include more specialised skills that align with current market demands. Additionally, we’re strengthening our partnerships with employers to create even more opportunities for veterans.

"Our commitment to veterans has always been there," Fisher added. "We believe in their potential and are dedicated to supporting their journey into civilian careers."
